The historical remote upper Mustang trekking unseal the once Forbidden Kingdom of Mustang, tucked away from the rest of the world, lies just north of the main Himalayan range of Nepal. Mustang, a land where the soul of the man is still considered to be as real as the feet he walks on: a land said to be "barren as a dead deer" but where beauty and happiness abound is spite of hardship, was a part of the Tibetan Kingdom of Gungthang until 1830's. The wall city of Lo Monthang, unofficial capital of Mustang still remains a kingdom within a kingdom. The early history to Lo Monthang is embellished in myth and legend rather than the recorded fact. Mustang has maintained its status as a separate principality until 1951. The king of Lo Monthang still retains his title and he has been given the honorary rank of Colonel in the Nepal army.

Trekking in Mustang was officially opened in 1992. It allows limited numbers of trekkers each year in order to protect and conserve the local Tibetan tradition and the fragile environment. A trek into this fabled forbidden kingdom of vast, arid valleys, eroded canyons, ochre valley, yak caravans, colourful-painted mud brick houses on the back dropped of majestic mountain of Nilgiri, Tukche, Annapurna and Dhaulagiri makes your medieval walled kingdom Mustang trekking a very especial one.

Asian Journey Treks Company regularly orginizes trek to the Himalayan Kingdom of Mustang targeting TIJI festival a three days long ritual known as" The chasing of the Demons", one of the most important festival of the region. Over the festive time monks dressed in elaborate costumes and masks perform dances and rituals that are supposed to drive away evil spirits. Dressed in their finery, people from all over Mustang gather in Lo Monthang to celebrate the Tiji festival.

Day to Day Itinerary

Day 01- Your arrival at the Tribhuwan International Airport(TIA) and you will be meet our airport representative then transfer to hotel. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 02- Full day sightseeing around Kathmandu city. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 03- Take a Tourist bus from Kathmandu (1315m) to Pokhara (915m), 6 hours. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 04- Fly from Pokhara to Jomsom (2720m), 30 minuets and walk to Kagbeni (2800m)). 2 hours. Overnight at Camp.

Day 05-Walk from Kagbeni (2800m) to Chaile (3030m), 5-6 hrs. Overnight at Camp.

Day 06- Walk from Chaile to Geling (3440m,), 6-7 hrs. Overnight at Camp.

Day 07- Walk from Geling (3440m) to Charang /Tsarang (3490m), 6-7 hrs. Overnight at Camp

Day 08- Walk from Tsarang (3560m) to Lo Manthang (3730m), 4-5 hrs. Overnight at Camp.

Day 09- Visit Namgyal Gompa and Tingkhar. Overnight at Camp.

Day 10- Walk from Lo Manthang to Ghar Gompa (3920 Meters), 5-6 hrs. Overnight at Camp.

Day 11- Walk from Ghar Gompa to Geling (3440m) 5 - 6 hrs. Overnight at Camp.

Day 12- Walk from Geling to Chele ( 3030m), 5 hrs.Overnight at Camp.

Day 13- Walk from Chele to Jomsom, 6 hrs.Overnight at Hotel.

Day 14- Fly back from Jomsom to Pokhara, 30 minutes and transfer to hotel, Overnight at Hotel.

Day 15- Take a tourist bus from Pokhara to Kathmandu and transfer to Hotel. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 16- Transfer to international airport for your final departure.

The price includes following services:

  • Special Trekking Permit US$ 500 per person for 10 days (the above price includes 10 days valid trekking permit from Kagbeni to Kagbeni. If you would wish to stay more than 10 days in restricted area, you are subjected to extra charge for extra days (US$ 70 per day / per person).

The Price doesn't Includes following services:

  • Any meals in Kathmandu and Pokhara other than breakfast.
  • Travel Insurance.(Your insurance should coverage personal accidents, medical expenses, helicopter evacuation for emergency)
  • Nepal Tourist Visa fee US$ 25 or equivalent foreign currency with multiple entry for 15 days, US$ 40 or equivalent foreign currency with multiple entry for 30 days.You may easily issue the visa upon your arrival at Tribhuwan International Airport - Kathmandu.
